The ICL7660S is a monolithic, CMOS power supply circuit designed for efficient DC-DC voltage conversion. Its primary function is to generate a negative voltage equal to the positive input supply, effectively “inverting” the input voltage (e.g., creating -5V from a +5V input). It can also be configured to double the input voltage (e.g., creating +10V from a +5V input). Operating as a switched-capacitor “charge pump,” it requires only two external capacitors to function, making it an incredibly simple and cost-effective solution for generating a secondary voltage rail. The “S” version offers improved performance over the standard ICL7660, with lower output impedance and operation down to 1.5V.
